Florida Tech Softball Ranked 14th In NFCA Preseason Coaches Poll

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After coming in at No. 19 in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coaches Poll of 2015, Florida Tech is slotted 14th in the 2016 NFCA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Panthers are the Sunshine State Conference’s lone representative in the poll, claiming 155 points. Defending national champion North Georgia is the unanimous selection for the top spot, receiving all 16 first-place votes.

FIT will play four teams associated with the poll. The Panthers play No. 6 Valdosta State on Feb. 6 at the Eckerd College Spring Invitational in Clearwater, Florida and later welcome the Blazers to Nancy Bottge Field for a doubleheader on Feb. 23.

Florida Tech plays Armstrong State, which received five votes in the rankings, at the Palm Beach Atlantic hosted Sailfish Showdown Feb. 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

FIT will take on defending semifinalist No. 3 Shorter, who eliminated the Panthers from the NCAA South Super Regionals, on March 8 in a doubleheader in Melbourne.

The Panthers will also host No. 23 Southern New Hampshire in a round-robin tournament with Wayne State on March 15.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
