NASA History: President Lyndon Johnson Honors Apollo 8 Crew, Announces Crew of Apollo 11

(NASA.gov) – Forty seven years ago this week, as President Lyndon Johnson presented NASA Distinguished Service Medals to the Apollo 8 crew he said the following.

“If there is an ultimate truth to be learned from this historic flight, it may be this: There are few social or scientific or political problems which cannot be solved by men, if they truly want to solve them together.”

This same day, NASA announced the crew of Apollo 11, humanity’s first mission to land a crew on another celestial body.
