Tiesha Flagler, Yagoh Kubagawa Named Florida Tech’s Student-Athletes Of The Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Following outstanding performances over the past week, women’s basketball guard Tiesha Flagler and men’s swimmer Yagoh Kubagawa have been named Florida Tech’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week.

Flagler’s performance during the previous week helped guide FIT to two major victories over Sunshine State Conference foe Barry and provisional member Embry-Riddle.

The senior guard notched 12 points and eight boards in the Panthers’ 52-48 home win over the Bucs Wednesday. She filled up the stat sheet the following game, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, a season-high five steals and two assists in the 59-35 rout of the Eagles on the road.

With the week’s results, the Panthers improved to 12-5 overall and 7-1 on the road this season.

Through 17 games, the Hastings, Florida native has produced 6.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists a night, ranking sixth and eighth in the SSC, respectively.

Kubagawa was key in FIT knocking off SSC opponent Tampa for the first time ever on Saturday, picking up a pair of event wins to help lead the No. 24 Panthers over the No. 11 Spartans.

The native Brazilian tallied the Panthers’ lone NCAA B-Cut time of the day, finishing first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:35.72.

He also grabbed the win in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in 4:47.26. For his efforts, Kubagawa was named the SSC Swimmer of the Week on Monday.

Women’s basketball is back in action on Wednesday, welcoming Tampa to the Clemente Center for a 5:30 p.m. ET tip.

Florida Tech jumps right back into the pool on Tuesday, hosting Lynn and Saint Leo at the Panther Aquatic Center for a 3 p.m. meet.
