Cocoa Police Seek Information On Overnight String of Vehicle Burglaries In Cocoa

An 18-year-old male is facing a list of felony crimes after ramming a police K-9 car and fleeing on Thursday at 5:51 p.m.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are currently investigating multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred in an isolated area of north Cocoa overnight last night.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are currently investigating multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred in an isolated area of north Cocoa overnight last night.

At least 9 vehicle burglaries were reported, according to Yvonne Martinez, the public information officer for the Cocoa Police Department.

The crimes occurred sometime during the overnight hours in a neighborhood on the north side of the city.

Dispatchers began receiving the first reports at around 5:30 a.m. The suspects targeted several vehicles on Shellie Court, Sherwood Circle and Longbow Road.

Patrol officers have determined that all of the vehicles were left unsecured.

In two separate cases the thieves stole a rifle and a semi-automatic handgun. They also stole a wallet, an I-phone, pocket knives, medications, jewelry, loose change and any other items of value left in the vehicles.

Officers have also located two residents with video surveillance systems and are attempting to recover the videos for follow up investigation.

“This is a good opportunity to remind our residents to lock your vehicles and remove all items of value,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe.

“In a majority of these cases the suspects are looking for an opportunity.”

Callers can remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000 in this case.
