BREVRAD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA- What a start to the season for Florida Tech women’s golfer Brittany LaPadula. The junior tied for first overall in the year’s opening tournament as the third-ranked Panthers cruised to a 14-stroke victory, and on Monday was named the Sunshine State Conference’s Golfer of the Week.

LaPadula started fast in each round of Florida Tech’s season debut at the World Golf Invitational. In round one, she birdied three of her first four holes and later added another three birdies on the front nine in the final round.

The transfer from Limestone shot consecutive rounds of one-over 73 before being eventually edged by Keiser University’s Elsa Westin on the third hole of the playoff.

Her 10 combined birdies in the 36-hole event were four more than the second-highest total recorded by Embry-Riddle’s Megan Pollenz and Tampa’s GraceMarie Schian.

FIT will look to add another tournament championship to its resume when it returns to action on Feb. 22 at the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, Texas.
