BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – In honor of late coach and Brevard County icon Fidgi Haig, the Florida Tech women’s soccer program will be hosting the inaugural Fidgi Haig Memorial 4v4 Tournament Saturday, March 12 from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. on campus at Rick Stottler Field.

The idea, brought upon by current head coach Dustin Smith and Haig’s wife, Sanna, will conjoin Fidgi’s love of soccer with a unique level of excitement. In addition to the soccer itself, there will be food, music, bounce houses and even guest appearances by players of the newest National Women’s Soccer League member, the Orlando Pride.

“For a while, we discussed what we could do to carry forth Fidgi’s legacy,” Smith said. “We came to the conclusion that whatever we decided to do, it had to be fun and soccer related. Fidgi would be most happy when people were just playing soccer.

“This is something we wanted to get started this year and hope to build upon moving forward. Over the course of the next several years, the ultimate goal is to bring in more kids and build the event into a weekend-long interactive soccer experience.”

Everyone is welcome to sign-up as age groups vary from U10 boys and girls all the way up to age 30+ and co-ed, but are subject to change based on the number of registered teams.  As host of the tournament, Smith’s vision is simple.

“Fun,” he said. “It’s going to be a fun event. We just want it to be a fun, positive atmosphere.”

The cost to register is $500, guaranteeing at least three games for each team plus playoffs. All participants must complete the online form no later than March 1 (see link below).
