BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Ty Cohen certainly lived up to the billing after earning the nod as the Opening Day starter for No. 25 Florida Tech, and on Monday was named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office.

In a rare, and even more so, tough season debut in conference play at Rollins, Cohen was on top of his game from the get-go.

The sophomore right-hander cruised early by retiring the first six batters he faced in what later finished as a strong six-inning, five-strikeout performance.

Cohen scattered four hits in the 6-1 Florida Tech victory, relinquishing the lone run on a sacrifice fly in a contest the Panthers never trailed.

The Woodstock, Georgia native finished 7-2 with 71 strikeouts in 12 starts a year ago, and was recently signed by the Bourne Braves to compete in the Cape Cod League this summer.

Cohen and Florida Tech will be off during the week, but will return to action Saturday in a neutral-site matchup against Wingate at 4 p.m. ET.
