Brevard Sheriff’s Office, Palm Bay Officers Take Down Merritt Island Armed Robbery Suspect

Sheriff’s Deputies and Palm Bay Police Officers located and arrested 46-year-old John Paul Bertrand (above) following an Armed Robbery today at the TD Bank, 250 E. Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Sheriff’s Deputies and Palm Bay Police Officers located and arrested 46-year-old John Paul Bertrand following an Armed Robbery today at the TD Bank, 250 E. Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The clerk at the TD Bank advised the suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded money.

The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money from the register and the suspect escaped on a motorcycle.

According to Cpl. Jacobs, Bertrand was located by a Palm Bay Police Officer at a Raceway in Indian River County, 9490 108th Avenue, Fellsmere, FL, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Bertrand’s apprehension was a combined effort by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Fellsmere Police Department, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Bay Police Department, Melbourne Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and Sebastian Police Department.

The suspect was in the possession of evidence relating to the Merritt Island robbery at the time of his apprehension and is cooperating with Agents.

He is suspected of other unrelated robberies committed earlier today in Indian River County, according to release by police.

Bertrand was arrested and charged with an unrelated robbery relating to and Indian River County incident.

He was transported to the Indian River County Jail under a No-bond status.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will complete their investigation and request an arrest warrant for Bertrand’s arrest and extradition.CRIMELINE-435-1
