Giveaway had more than 127 million entries
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – HGTV announced that David Rennie of Shelton, Connecticut has won the HGTV Dream Home 2016 on Merritt Island.
Rennie was “winner ambushed” by HGTV host Tiffany Brooks.
According to HGTV, Rennie’s name was chosen from more than 127 million entries for the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2016. The lucky winner and his wife Margaret were in disbelief when host Brooks and the HGTV production crew ambushed them at their hometown church.
Rennie is the winner of the coastal retreat located on Merritt Island, a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali, a $250,000 cash prize provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans and a beautiful new boat – a grand prize valued at more $1.5 million.
An avid fan of HGTV, Rennie has been following all of the HGTV home giveaways for many years.
“I entered the giveaway regularly,” said Rennie. “In fact, my wife would give me grief for entering, and we were both sure nothing like this would happen to us,” he says.
Rennie says he’s watched the building of the home and viewed the photos online, but they can’t wait to see it in person. His wife is especially looking forward to spending some time on the dock on the river.
Rennie is the father of two daughters and is a former Boy Scouts of America employee.
After being diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease), he received a kidney transplant in March 2015.
“I thought I won the lottery with the kidney,” said Rennie.
“That was life changing, but so is this. It’s incredible. We just never thought it could get any better.”
