Human resource representative Anita Streble said on Friday that Heshmati left the department at the end of 2015.

Heshmati has been singled out by many for his efforts to enhance the quality of health care not just on a local scale, but also nationally.

As a tribute to his efforts serving the citizens of Brevard for more than three decades, the Board of County Commissioners in 2008 named the new Brevard County Health Department facility after Heshmati.

Under his leadership, Brevard has been top ranked in overall health among Florida’s largest metropolitan counties, according to the University of South Florida.

A search for a replacement is under way.
