ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCF) – After a busy and lively first day of spring camp, UCF conducted practice No. 2 on Wednesday morning. It was the only time of the spring season that the Knights will practice on consecutive days.

Head coach Scott Frost met with the media on Tuesday, so Wednesday it was the coordinators’ turn.

“(The offense going fast) only helps us,” defensive coordinator Erik Chinander said.

“It helps us because we get reps for our guys, we see a billion different looks every day. So it’s not like you’re waiting for week three to see something that you’ve got to fix. You see it all in about three practices. It also helps our guys get in shape, and gives us a look at the 1s, the 2s and the 3s. It teaches these guys the tempo we want to play, the amount of effort we want to play with.”

Offensive coordinator Troy Walters admitted that even UCF’s first practice on Tuesday was a little new to him.

“We’ve gone fast (at other schools) but not that fast,” Walters said.

“It’s probably the fastest tempo practice I’ve been a part of. … When you go 135 plays – we’re going 4-5 deep in terms of the wide receiver position – everybody’s getting reps, everybody’s getting opportunities to show what they can do. It creates depth on the offense.”

UCF will now have a day away from the practice fields before returning for its third session on Friday.
