BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida will be held Thursday, April 14 at various location throughout Space Coast.

Law enforcement officers from more than 300 Florida agencies (police departments, sheriff’s offices, Florida Department of Corrections, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, U.S. Customs, Air Force Police and Marine Patrol) all participate in the state-wide torch run to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Florida.

Each year, over 5,000 officers carry the torch on a 1500-mile relay through 67 counties in Florida.

BREVARD COUNTY TORCH RUN SCHEDULE & ROUTES:

• 8 a.m. PALM BAY (2 miles)
– Start: Palm Bay City Hall
– Finish: Publix 1150 Malabar

• 9:30 a.m. WEST MELBOURNE POLICE DEPARTMENT (1 mile)
– Start: Calvary Chapel Melbourne
– Finish: West Melbourne Police Department

• 10:30 a.m. MELBOURNE POLICE DEPARTMENT (3 miles)
– Start: BCSO South Precinct 1515 Sarno Road
– Finish: Publix 1411 Babcock Street

• 11:30 p.m. ROCKLEDGE POLICE DEPARTMENT (2 miles)
– Start:  Publix 1880 US Hwy. 1
– Finish: Springwood Estates 951 Eyster Boulevard

Lunch Provide To Participants

• 1:30 p.m.: COCOA BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT (1 mile)
– Start: McDonald’s 3920 A1A
– Finish: Publix 2007 A1A

• 3 p.m. TITUSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT (2 miles)
– Start:  Publix 3265 Garden St.
– Finish: Sand Point Park

• 6 p.m. CELEBRATION LEG (1 mile)
–  Start:  Viera Courthouse
–  Finish: Inside Space Coast Stadium

SPACE COAST STADIUM FREE CELEBRATION & FIREWORKS

• 5: p.m. Doors open (free admission)

– Law Enforcement Special Ops Displays
– Family Fun (free face paint, balloons and family entertainment)

6 p.m. – Final Torch Run Leg to Space Coast Stadium followed by special celebration event

7 p.m. – Exhibition Softball Game, National Gold Medal Special Olympics Team vs. Law Enforcement Officers

8 p.m. – FIREWORKS SHOW (Suites Available)
