Dr. Mark Pinsky: Our Streets Are Infiltrated With Powerful Prescription Pain Killers
By Space Coast Daily // April 26, 2016
REAL THREAT TO OUR COMMUNITY
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A scary, but real threat to our community has recently emerged. Patients who do not have adequate access to health care, chronic inappropriate drug users and unfortunately our children are the most likely to be affected.
Our streets have become infiltrated with powerful prescription strength pain killers. This is no surprise to most of us. The difference today is that drug dealers for whatever reason have decided to lace what appears to be Percocet (a very powerful opiate pain reliever) with Fentanyl.
The potency of these tablets are an astounding 50 times greater than heroin. The pills look exactly like the prescription ones and so the only way to insure you’re getting the correct medication is to purchase them legitimately from the pharmacy.
Sadly, this lacing has resulted in multiple deaths in Central Florida. Related to this brings to light a very important subject matter. We are all responsible for protecting our children. Discuss openly with your children the dangers of taking pills they know nothing about.
They may already know about the dangers of taking these types of illegal drugs and I’m grateful for that, but PLEASE remind them NOT to take any pills from their friends or anyone they do not know.
Unfortunately, I have witnessed children who were victims of what their friends thought was a harmless prank. These victims thought they were receiving Tylenol or Motrin, but were instead given meds that had potentially deadly effects.
Communication is the key, so let’s all take care of each other.
