Eastern Florida State’s Karli Smith, Jake Walsh Earn Student Athlete of the Week Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Softball pitcher Karli Smith and baseball pitcher Jake Walsh are the Eastern Florida Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 17.

Smith, a freshman from Miami, Florida and Florida Christian School, recorded three pitching victories including a 3-2 triumph to hand Indian River State its first FCSAA Southern Conference defeat. She pitched 14 innings allowing 14 hits and six runs. She struck out 10 batters and walked five. Her record improved to 5-6.

At the plate Smith went 6-for-13 in the three games with a double, triple and seven runs batted in.

Walsh, a sophomore from Melbourne, Florida and Jacksonville State in Alabama, pitched a seven-inning, three-hit shutout with five strikeouts as the Titans beat Indian River State 11-0.

He improved this record to 4-3 and has 48 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings pitched with a 3.51 earned run average.
