BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Volunteers can come help spruce up Fee Avenue Park this Sunday, April 10, at 9 a.m., at a clean-up event hosted by Trader Legal, a local law firm that has “adopted” Fee Avenue Park through the City of Melbourne’s Adopt-a-Park program.

Sunday’s event is the first clean-up event to be held in 2016.

Though the Adopt-a-Park program has been around for several years, it was retooled last fall in order to offer local businesses and organizations the ability to engage more with residents and visitors.

“Local businesses and organizations have the ability to adopt one of the City’s 38 beautiful parks,” said Kevin Briski, Director of Parks, Recreation & Golf for the City of Melbourne.

“It is a wonderful way to increase visibility in our community and a great opportunity to give back.”

Since the program was re-launched in January, eight local businesses have become Adopt-a-Park members. The program combines in-kind service with an annual financial contribution that helps offset the costs of maintaining and improving the adopted park.

Adopt-a-Park members help maintain City parks by hosting clean-up events like the one planned for Sunday.

They also help with beautification projects, including planting trees, weeding landscaped areas, and painting picnic tables and benches.

In return, Adopt-a-Park members can gain valuable exposure for their businesses or organizations.

Their names are inscribed on new Play Melbourne park signs installed at their adopted park, and they receive recognition on the City of Melbourne website and social media pages. Program members can also rent a park pavilion, gazebo or facility at a discounted rate.
