The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a tip about two men hunting from the back of a truck in a closed area during “Operation Outdoor Freedom’s” Spring Turkey Hunt.

After locating the vehicle described, FWC officers Chris Araujo and Chris Thurkettle stopped the truck on a closed road near the entrance of the Picayune Strand State Forest.

On inspection, they saw three long guns on top of a blood-stained blanket in the truck’s back seat.

The officers discovered a nine-point buck and a spike, both in velvet, under the stained blanket.

Both men were booked in the Collier County jail for taking deer out of season and hunting in an unauthorized area.
