BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Ashland Kittens of Kentucky, in town for Brevard Productions’ annual spring training, defeated the Cocoa Tigers at Cocoa High School Tuesday night on the strength of Megan Murphy’s five hit performance and Gabby Ingram’s three hits.

Murphy also picked up the win while striking out 10 batters.

For their performance, Murphy and Ingram were named the Friday Night Locker Room co-Players of the Game. Mattie Shivel and Katie Baldock had two hits apiece.

The Kittens came in ranked as the No. 8 team in Kentucky, and carried a team batting average over .400.

The Kittens played error-free ball. Third baseman Hayley Kilburn made a terrific diving catch to end the 5th inning. And that was just one of many solid plays turned in by the Kittens defense.

The Cocoa Tigers refused to give up, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Consecutive base hits by Cassidy Metzger, Maddie Lawson and Abi Soliven provide the power in the seventh. Soliven drove in three RBI’s for the Tigers, and Lawson was on base three times going 2-2 with a walk.

The Tigers open district play next Monday at Cocoa Beach at 6 p.m.
