BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue reported 22 ocean rescues on Memorial Day, including one bite to a 12-year-old boy by some ‘unknown sea creature’ on Cocoa Beach, presumably by a shark, according to Brevard County Ocean Rescue.

The incident took place around Sidney Fischer Park mid-afternoon.

The boy was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital with a near half-foot cut on his right leg.

“We were swimming in the ocean, and then you heard the scream. Off in the distance, we saw a father carrying his son, and you could physically see there was some type of laceration on his ankle, blood was dripping from it,” said one woman, speaking to WOFL Fox 35 in Orlando.

The boy is expected to recover, according to a source.
