Central Brevard Shopping Epicentre Merritt Square Mall Slated To Be Auctioned May 25

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Merritt Square Mall, the 82-acre shopping epicentre of central Brevard County, is slated to go to on the auction block next week as a result of the parent company defaulting on the mortgage.
The 810,500 square-foot mall, located at 777 E. Merritt Island Causeway in Merritt Island, is owned by WP Glimcher Inc., a multi-faceted retail real estate investment trust with a portfolio of 118 shopping centers, including enclosed regional malls, open-air lifestyle centers and community centers.
The company specializes in the ownership, management and development of retail shopping centers throughout the U.S.
Merritt Square mall is an enclosed regional mall featuring more than 90 specialty stores, restaurants and the only movie theater within a 25-minute drive.
Located just minutes from Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, its mix of retailers along with dining options that include restaurants such as Dillard’s, Macy’s, Sears, JC Penney’s, Sports Authority, Books-A-Million, Cobb Theaters, Bonefish Grill, Ruby Tuesday and Outback Steakhouse.
Foreclosure proceedings were initiated earlier this year and a judgement for $47.3 million was placed on the property by the courts.
Earlier this month, Sports Authority announced that the company will close all 463 of its stores, including the location at Merritt Square Mall.
