BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The City of Rockledge hosted its second annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday at Larry L. Schultz Park.

“The City of Rockledge holds its annual ceremony the day before Memorial Day so as not to conflict with other events around Brevard County,” said event co-coordinator Lisa Nicholas.

The program featured patriotic music courtesy of the Community Band of Brevard, and Honor Guards from VFW Post 4534 (Rocket Post) and the Rockledge Police Department.

Speakers included Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Port Commissioner and retired admiral Wayne Justice and Col. Rich Goodman from Patrick Air Force Base. Boy Scout Troop No. 321 lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Pastor Shaun Ferguson offered the opening prayer.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America.

“Because of what Memorial Day represents, this is annually the most important event of the year for the City of Rockledge,” said Nicholas.

“The sacrifice made by those brave individuals shall never be forgotten. This is an event we are very proud of.”
