Florida Highway Patrol Seeks Vehicle Involved In Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Fatality

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Thomas James Porter, 45, of Melbourne was killed when an unknown vehicle struck him at about 2:15 a.m. at U.S. 192 and John Rhodes Boulevard on Wednesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Porter had been in the Cumberland Farms on U.S. 192 near John Rhodes Boulevard at 1:49 a.m. He was then seen leaving the store and walking towards U.S. 192.

At 2:27 a.m., Porter was found lying in the eastbound turn lane of U.S. 192, and died at the hospital.

According to FHP, Troopers located no evidence to help identify the vehicle that struck Porter.

“There was heavy rain at this time and very dark, in the area,” said Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

This crash remains under investigation and anyone that drove through the intersection eastbound between this time period is asked to contact FHP at 407-737-2213.
