BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The honors keep on coming for Florida Tech’s Rachel Pence, who has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

Pence was selected to the District 5 team, encompassing the Sunshine State Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Gulf South Conference (GSC).

Pence, Florida Tech’s 2016 recipient of the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, holds a 3.8 GPA in Psychology through the Fall 2015 semester.

The news comes on the heels of the Jacksonville, Florida native being dubbed Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference. The junior made 41 starts in 2016, registering a school-record 31 wins, fifth-most in all of Division II.

Pence claimed the FIT record for single season strikeouts and career strikeouts, posting 229 on the season for a total of 543. The righty hurler topped the conference in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched and ranked fifth with a 1.68 ERA.

The Creekside High School product is one of 12 players from SSC schools to be named academic all-district and is now in the running for Academic All-American distinction, voted on later this month.
