UPDATE: Palm Bay Police Identify Victim In Thursday Morning’s Traffic Fatality

UPDATE: Victim has been identified as 78-year-old man James William Smith, according to Palm Bay Police.

At this time investigators believe the crash was caused by the pedestrian crossing mid-block, outside of a crosswalk and failing to yield to the right of way for the vehicle.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay police has reported a traffic fatality at Palm Bay Road and Bottlebrush Drive NE at about 8:55 a.m Thursday morning.

According to police, the eastbound lanes will be closed for the next couple of hours.

Police ask motorist to avoid the area of in front of the old Palm Bay Fire Station 1, just West of Lipscomb Street.

Authorities have not identified the victim at this time.
