ZACK SPURLOCK SURVIVES HARROWING ENCOUNTER
ABOVE VIDEO: Zack Spurlock, a Realtor with RE/MAX Elite, speaks to Space Coast Daily’s Bobby Freeman about his shocking face-to-face encounter with a Great White Shark while spearing Lionfish off Port Canaveral, Florida. Freeman, a Realtor who covers the real estate scene for Space Coast Daily, also interviewed Grill’s Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar owner Joe Penovich. Penovich was topside in the boat with his daughter Alli as the huge man-eater stalked Spurlock. According to experts, Great White Sharks are responsible for the largest number of reported and identified fatal unprovoked shark attacks on humans. (Space Coast Daily Video)
BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Brevard County’s Zack Spurlock was in for a shock when he encountered a Great White Shark last May while spearing Lionfish for Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar.
Spurlock was in the water, while Grill’s owner Joe Penovich and his daughter Alli, were top-side operating the boat.
Here’s Zack’s stunning account of what happened:
“I was diving in about 90 feet of water, about 25 miles southeast of Port Canaveral when I first saw the shark. It was on the bottom and slowly swimming south.
I then saw it pass by, headed north a minute later. It then passed by a third time, and after it swam out of sight, I decided it was time to head up to get the GoPro.
Joe tossed me the GoPro, and as I proceeded to make my way back to the jug and decend, the shark made a surprise appearance behind me on the surface.
I would have never seen the shark from behind if it wasn’t for my friends yelling at me to turn around!
The water was crystal clear, so it’s amazing to me how incredible these large creatures are at staying in your blind spot.
Sorry for the video quality, I was holding onto a gun, pole spear and bag with lionfish fins poking through and trying not to drop anything!”
