JAKE ELLIOTT FACED TWO-TIME CHAMPION IN DEBUT

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — For his first-ever jet dragster race, Sidney Lee Welding Supply driver Jake Elliott sure didn’t make it easy on himself.

At the rainy All Chevy Nationals in Commerce, Georgia, on June 4, the rookie and Georgia native found himself facing off against two-time world champion driver Elaine Larsen and her Florida Tech jet dragster.

Larsen won with an elapsed time of 5.974 seconds and a speed of 267.59 mph – just nipping Elliott by a mere .0331 second.

After dispatching the man who was crew chief on the Florida Tech dragster’s first season, Larsen gave credit to the woman – and current Florida Tech student – who heads up her team now, Michelle Rodriguez.

“Michelle had the car running consistent, and that’s what it takes to win races,” she said.
