BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are on scene of a fatal crash that occurred at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night on U.S. 1, near Fay Boulevard in Port St. John.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the call came in to FHP as a person deceased in the roadway and Troopers have determined that this fatal crash is a hit and run.

“As they are on scene still gathering information, the only information we are able to confirm at this time is that a vehicle was traveling northbound on U.S. 1 and struck an adult male pedestrian that was traveling in an unknown direction,” said Sgt. Kim Montes, Public Affairs Officer of the Florida Highway Patrol.

“The vehicle then fled the scene.  Law enforcement was contacted by an owner of a 2001 Ford 4-door and told that it had been in some type of crash.  The vehicle is back at the scene and has damage consistent with striking a pedestrian.  Troopers will continue their investigation.  The owner is being cooperative and troopers have not yet identified a driver.”

The victim has not yet been identified.
