BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are on State Road 50 between Christmas and I-95 monitoring a brush fire that is active south of State Road 50.

The Division of Forestry has advised FHP that the fires is moving north and could possibly reach SR 50 in the overnight hours

According to Sgt. Kim Montes, drivers should use caution in the area and be prepared that FHP may have to shut the roadway down if the fire reaches State Road 50, or visibility decreases to a dangerous level.

“At this time, there is minimal smoke in the area, but that could change at any time,” said Sgt. Montes in a release.

“Troopers will remain in the area, throughout the night, to monitor the roadway.”

At this time all lanes of SR 50 are open.
