BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A three-year-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool Saturday evening during a family party.
According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, just before 5:30 p.m. emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from the 2100 block of Ivy Drive reporting an unresponsive child that was just pulled from a swimming pool.
“A family member was performing CPR when first responders arrived,” said Martinez in a release.
“The child was taken to Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge where doctors pronounced him deceased at 6:23 p.m.”
The investigation revealed there was a family gathering at the home where several children ranging in age from 8 to 10 years old were playing in the swimming pool.
“One adult was also outside grilling food,” said Martinez.
“Most of the other adults were inside the home. It is believed the three year old child fell into the pool and was in the water for approximately two minutes before he was seen and an adult pulled him out and began CPR.”
Detectives have determined the incident was an accidental drowning.
