BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa City Council approved the second renewal of a two-year Strategic Alliance Memorandum with the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) to continue coordination and cooperation of mutually beneficial activities in the interest of small business within the city of Cocoa.

The first Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) between the City of Cocoa and the SBA was executed in May 2012 for a period of two years, and was subsequently renewed upon its expiration in May 2014.

The alliance allows for cooperation to include up-to-date information about SBA’s programs and services and make available information regarding SBA’s resource partners (such as the Small Business Development Center, SCORE, WeVenture) as well as SBA pamphlets, brochures, and other publications.

The SBA will provide speakers to participate in the City of Cocoa workshops, conferences, seminars, and other activities to discuss SBA financing, government contracting and other business topics.

Since its inception in 2012, the alliance has yielded a total of $15 million in loan funding backed by the SBA, facilitated in the creation of 149 new jobs and 28 SBA-guaranteed loans for Cocoa businesses.

Additionally, the City and the SBA have jointly hosted, directly and indirectly, eight (8) workshops and partnered on more than 21 projects concerning small business finance, business marketing, HUBZone certification, government contracting, and other SBA-related activities.

The City of Cocoa’s Office of Economic Development works directly with Vince Lopresti, the Assistant Director of Marketing and Outreach (Area 2) of the SBA’s South Florida District Office to offer programs and services to local businesses.
