Charged with Armed Burglary, Cruelty to Animals

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Special Operations Unit arrested Markell Brent Sawyer, 19, of Vin Rose Circle in connection with the July 24 burglary on Salina St.

During this burglary, Jasper a 2-year old Yorkie Terrier, was stabbed and left for dead.

Palm Bay’s Juvenile Task Force recovered property taken from the burglary during a juvenile check.

This led Detectives to Sawyer, who is charged with Armed Burglary of a Dwelling and Felony Cruelty to Animals. Sawyer is being held at the Brevard County Jail on no bond.

“We take all crime serious, but this was very shocking,” said Palm Bay police Lt. Mike Bandish.
