Melbourne Police Department Takes Down Suspect In Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

BREVARD COUNT • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Department arrested 35-year-old Matthew A. Hill who was the driver of a stolen vehicle from Titusville after a brief vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit on July 2, according to Lt. T.A. Turner of the Melbourne Police Department. 

A police officer observed a blue Hyundai on Wickham Rd. and Lake Washington Blvd. that was reported stolen from Titusville. The officer attempted a traffic stop in the Kingsmill Subdivision on Majestic Avenue and Royalty Street.

The vehicle then fled through the neighborhood into the Longwood Subdivision where the suspect crashed through a privacy fence at 2731 Village Park Dr. and ended up back yard where it was abandoned, according to Lt. Turner.

The driver later identified as Matthew A. Hill was pursued on foot across Wickham Rd. to the Sun N Green Condominiums.

At that point, the suspect bentered the canal where he attempted to elude the police. A perimeter was quickly established resulting in him surrendering after the K9 was deployed.

Hill was found to be a registered sex offender and have an extensive arrest history for burglary, grand theft auto and other offenses.
