Sixers intend to waive Kaun

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers have traded former Florida Prep (Formerly Florida Air Academy) star center Sasha Kaun to the Philadeplhia 76ers. 

In exchange for Kaun, the Cavaliers acquired the rights to forward Chukwudiebere Maduabum.

The trade creates a traded player exception for the Cavs for Kaun’s salary.

Kaun signed with the Cavs in September 2015 and he played in 25 games last season. Maduabum last played with for the Finnish Korisliiga team Tampereen Pyrintö,

The move according to numerous sources also created room on the roster for Cleveland to sign center Chris Andersen in a separate deal.

According to those same sources, the Sixers intend to waive Kaun once the trade is completed.

Kaun averaged just 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds last season as a 31-year-old rookie after spending the beginning of his career overseas.

After coming to the Melbourne via Tomsk, Russia and under the guidance of then Florida Air Academy legendary coach Aubin Goporo, Kaun bloomed as a basketball player.

In 2003 Kaun helped lead the Falcons to a 29-0 record and a state championship.

After two years of organized basketball, Kaun began excelling on the summer AAU circuit.

Kaun played for four years in Lawrence for the Jayhawks. During his college career he shot an impressive .568 from the floor, tallied 830 points, pulled down 526 rebounds, blocked 150 shots and helped lead Kansas to four straight Big 12 regular-season titles and the 2008 NCAA title.

Kaun was also selected as a Three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.
