BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Corrections Deputy Cpl. Sherry Somers and Corrections Deputy Cpl. Daila Davis were both honored on Thursday by the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency Committee for their outstanding contributions in the field of Corrections, Re-Entry and Youth Crime Prevention.

The recognition occurred during the annual FCCD Luncheon and Awards Ceremony that takes place to recognize FCCD partners in the field of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Cpl. Somers is the Program Coordinator at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Jail Complex who works diligently to develop and administer rehabilitative programs that serve to lower the recidivism rate for inmates in the Brevard County Jail.

One of the methods used to lower the crime rate is to provide tools and resources for inmates who are re-entering society in an effort to place them in stable lives with a job and the needed resources to become a productive member of society. Cpl. Somers does an amazing job in this capacity and earned recognition for her innovation and commitment to lowering the recidivism rate throughout Brevard County.

Cpl. Davis is assigned as a member of our Crime Prevention Unit and is a vital part of our efforts to prevent crime before it occurs and victimizes one our citizens. Cpl. Davis was recognized for her critical work and coordination of our newly created Brevard Attitude Modification (B.A.M.) Program and our Camp Chance initiative that are designed to get to kids, before they get to us in Law Enforcement.

Cpl. Davis not only helps facilitate the BAM Program but also follows up with the participants to make sure that they are staying on the right track and away from trouble.

As I tell everyone, “I am surrounded by great people and I’m smart enough to stay out of their way while they do great things to protect our community!”

Please join me in congratulating Sherry and Daila for their awards and in thanking the FCCD for recognizing their partners, as we all work together to keep Brevard County a great place to call home.
