BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department has started three new programs at our local public schools.

“In a partnership with the Brevard County Public Schools System, we started a program where officers get sent to local elementary schools to meet with staff on a daily basis for a few minutes, then they walk around the campus learning the layout,” said Melbourne police.

“This gives them the opportunity to engage the students and staff. Second, we instituted a Lunch with a Cop program which allows officers to sit and have lunch with the kids.

Finally, we gave our School Resource Officer for Melbourne High School a new mode of transportation, a Segway. This will allow him to move around the campus much faster!”

All these initiatives are designed to provide more safety on our schools campuses as well as break down any barriers that may develop between the officers and the students.
