BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Tropical Depression Six is expected to become a tropical storm later today, according to National Weather Service.

When that occurs, it will be given the name “Fiona”.

The system is centered at mid-day over the eastern Atlantic Ocean about 840 miles (1350 km) west of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

Slow strengthening during the next 48 hours is forecasted.
