BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, armed with information from a concerned citizen, arrested two juvenile suspects who were charged with armed burglary, grand theft and resisting arrest without violence.
The incident occurred on August 31, at approximately 8:30 a.m., when the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the concerned citizen who observed two subjects acting suspiciously at a neighbor’s residence.
The citizen reported that two subjects knocked at the front door on Maureen Avenue in Merritt Island, and then began looking into windows when there was no answer. The citizen then watched the subjects walk to the back yard and ultimately enter the residence through a side door.
BCSO East Precinct Deputies, along with Aviation, K-9 and General Crimes Agents responded to the residence and established a perimeter. The two suspects then fled the home and were immediately arrested.
The investigation determined the suspects had burglarized the home, and both were found with stolen property, which included cash, jewelry, a computer and a firearm.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with armed burglary, grand theft and resisting arrest without violence and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The suspects are 16 and 17 years of age with the 16 year old being released from the State’s Juvenile Detention Center just 24 hours before this violent crime.
This case is another perfect example of what happens when citizens and Law Enforcement work together to protect our community. Please join me in congratulating our entire team and the concerned citizen for an outstanding job!
