BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Santa Fe tri-match Saturday afternoon.

The Titans, who are now 8-4 on the season, opened the day with a straight set win against Hillsborough who came in as the No. 2 team in the region and then fell to No. 7 Santa Fe in four sets.

Eastern Florida, who is No. 10 in the poll, won the opening match 25-16, 25-20, 25-16. Rachael Gunn and Malvis Ortiz led the attack with eight kills apiece while teammate Kylie Hurst added seven.

The team then battled host Santa Fe in a close four-set match. After falling in a tight first set 23-25, the Titans rallied back from two set points to take the second set 29-27. The third set went to Santa Fe 25-10 and the fourth set 25-20.

Ortiz finished with 15 kills while Gunn had 11 in the second match.

The Titans will open the conference season on Tuesday night, traveling to Broward for a 7 p.m. matchup. They will be back home Thursday night when they host Indian River State College at 6 p.m. at the Titan Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
