On June 11, 2016, Officer Van Note responded to a call in reference to a small child and adult whose kayak capsized in the river.

Officer Van Note kayaked against the current for 200 yards, and once he arrived, he checked for injuries and started a plan of action to get them to safety.

Officer Van Note had the male hold onto the outside of the kayak along with him and swam back down stream. Deputy Star monitored the 200 yard swim back and both boaters were safely handed over to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Due to Officer Van Note and Deputy Cody Star’s quick thinking, both boaters were rescued from a life threatening event.
