(FWC) – A raccoon was in a sticky situation after getting its head stuck in a plastic peanut butter jar.
FWC’s Lt. Ruggiero got a call from a school about the distressed critter and arrived on scene to find it about 30 feet up an oak tree.
Ruggiero called a fire department, hoping to use their ladder to reach the raccoon. Before the firefighters arrived, Ruggiero caught the raccoon shimmying down the tree.
The lieutenants’ speedy reaction, along with the help of firefighters, thick gloves and a towel, led to the removal of the plastic jar and the successful release of the now-gooey and peanut butter-scented raccoon.
While our officers aren’t always able to focus on animal rescues, they are happy to help when they can.
You can help animals like this raccoon stay out of sticky situations by always throwing your trash in the proper trash container.
