Greta Zimmer Friedman, the woman who was kissed on Aug. 14, 1945 by a sailor in Times Square celebrating V-J Day, is dead at age of 92.

Friedman’s son told the Associated Press that his mother died Thursday at a hospital in Richmond, Va. from complications of old age.

The famous image shot by Alfred Eisenstaedt and is appropriately called “V-J Day in Times Square.”

The photograph was published a week later in Life magazine among many photographs of celebrations around the United States that were presented in a twelve-page section titled “Victory Celebrations.”
