BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team will open the season as the No. 4 team in the NJCAA Division I poll.

The Titans, who are coming off a 28-4 season and a fourth straight Southern Conference title, are behind only No. 1 Northwest Florida State, Georgia Highlands and Trinity Valley in the preseason poll.

The only other two teams in the state who are ranked are Daytona State at No. 12 and Tallahassee at No. 19.

Eastern Florida State College will open the season next Tuesday night when they host Polk State at 7 p.m.

Last week EFSC held their fourth annual Titan Madness Evening at Titan Field House. This is an evening when both the men’s and women’s took to the floor to introduce themselves to the fans and have a little fun in the process.

Festivities included a dunk contest and Men’s basketball player Noah Horchler got fans on their feet on his opening dunk as he soared over 5-foot-10 teammate Ahmed Ali who was standing in the lane.

It was the first of three dunks, all scoring perfect 10s by judges Dr. James Richey, Mr. Titan and emcee Mark Moses.

“He told me in the car on the way over here, ‘I am going to jump over you.’ I said, ‘are you sure you can do it.’ He said, ‘100 percent.'” Ali said. “I don’t know how he did it, he just accelerated.”

Head Coach Jeremy Shulman has won over 100 games in the past four seasons and his Titans will open the season next Tuesday night when they host Polk State at 7 p.m

Then it was Ali’s turn as he faced Mariah Batz in the final of the 3-point contest and he hit every shot in that final, posting a perfect score.

“To be honest I have always wanted to be in a 3-point challenge and to do that was pretty good,” Ali said. “It is a confidence thing, I have the confidence back and can’t wait to do big things this season.”

The night began with a skills competition in which the team of women’s basketball player Victoria Morales, men’s basketball player Joh Korthuis and men’s tennis player Danrich Kruger came away with the title, hitting all of their shots the quickest.

The scrimmage featured some big shots and some high flying dunks as the Blue team came away with the victory.
