BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –More than 300 Harris employees gathered at the Harris Technology Center Wednesday to kick off the 2016 United Way of Brevard campaign with a food-packing event that will directly benefit children in the community.

The company donated 12,500 food packs for the Children’s Hunger Project, an organization that sends food home with Brevard County students each Friday to avoid childhood hunger over the weekends.

Harris United Way Campaign Chairman Jahmar Ignacio said the event was a perfect way to launch this year’s effort.

“Harris employees have been donating their time and resources for decades, and this is a great way to continue building on that foundation and help our friends and neighbors in need,” said Ignacio, an engineering manager. “We look forward to our best year ever.”

Harris employees donated a campaign-leading $1.37 million last year, beating the $1.35 million goal.
