Cocoa Tigers Dominate In Every Phase, Take Down Jones 41-6

Orville Susong and Steve Wilson  were on the call for the Friday Night Locker Room, Space Coast Daily game of the week . In the battle of  Tigers, it was the home team Cocoa Tigers that roared most often and loudest.

In a game that featured a strength on strength matchup the talent and depth of Cocoas defense proved to be too much for the Jones offense, which entered the contest averaging 50 points per game and had scored 38 touchdowns on the season.

Cocoa allowed  just 187 total yards of offense and frustrated Jones QB Quandry Jones all evening, sacking him three times, one of them being a 30-yard take down by Howard Stewart.

Cocoa’s offense also showed up to play and after scoring just six first quarter points managed 31 in the middle two frames behind an offensive line that cleared a path for Cocoa ball carriers to rush for over 400 yards. Running backs Timmy Pratt and Lesedrick King combined to rush for 240 yards on just 24 carries (10 YPC) and two touchdowns.

Cocoa, who is the number one ranked team in Florida Class 4A now has the inside track at their ninth straight district championship moves to 5-1 overall and is now the only unbeaten team in their district.

The Cocoa Tigers, who have had the past two weeks off due to an opponent canceling a game and Hurricane Matthew, have just three games to play in the regular season and the road for two straight games starting next week at Astronaut.

Melbourne Central Catholic Wins Class 3A District 6 Championship

WATCH Alan Zlotorzynski and Zach Clark of the Friday Night Locker Room and Space Coast Daily were on hand to bring the Hustlers dominating performance on Friday night to you on Space Coasr Daily Facebook live.

MCC captured the Class 3a Distrit 6 championship with a convincing 52-17 win over John Carroll. And the game wasn’t even that close.

The Hustlers jumped out top early and led 31-0 at halftime. Brevard County’s leading passer, MCC QB Joaquin Collazo tossed four more touchdowns to four different receivers. Collazo now has 30 touchdoen passes on the year to just five interceptions.

Hustler running back Lavonte Valentine was the Friday Night Locker Room player of the game as he rushed for 115 yards and scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and one in the air.

The Hustlers took advantage of a questionable decision making process from the John Carroll coaching staff. The Rams elected to try to convert four consecutive fourth downs deep in their own territory.

MCC possession on the Rams 22, 28, 30 and 35 yard line. MCC scored 24 points in those drives.  Hustler kicker Will Mckegg kicked a 45 yard field goal and barely missed from 50 wide right.
