Anthony Carpino Arrsted in Burger King bathroom
Suspected serial bank robber Anthony Carpino, aka Giovanni Salletti, 45, was arrested Tuesday about 8:15 a.m. after a Facebook tip led to his arrest at a Daytona Beach Burger King bathroom.
Agencies involved in the take-down included the FBI, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Daytona Beach Police Department.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the 45-year old Carpino had less than 12-hours down time before law enforcement were hot on his trail, standing by outside the Daytona Beach hotel where he was hiding. Carpino strolled out of his room for breakfast at Burger King, where he was arrested by law enforcement.
Carpino is the prime suspect in a TD Bank robbery in Palm Bay last week. He is also suspected of a robbery of a Wells Fargo bank in Palm City and a bank robbery in Daytona Beach last March.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office detectives believe Carpino is responsible for the robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank in Palm City just after 5 p.m. Monday. The FBI believes Carpino is responsible for multiple bank robberies throughout Florida. Now, he’s in federal custody and will be charged accordingly.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, tips about Carpino’s whereabouts began pouring in immediately after his picture was posted on the MCSO Facebook.
“In fact, one follower lead law enforcement directly to the hotel Carpino was staying at in Daytona Beach,” said the MCSO in a Facebook post.
Martin County Sheriff’s detectives and the FBI immediately traveled to the area, where they set up with with local authorities.
