 Cocoa police detectives continue to investigate leads in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man on Wednesday, and Central Florida CRIMELINE has offered a $5,000 reward for information that can help lead to an arrest in the case.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Cocoa police detectives continue to investigate leads in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man on Wednesday, and Central Florida CRIMELINE has offered a $5,000 reward for information that can help lead to an arrest in the case.  

According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, Walter Thomas Jr. was pronounced deceased early Wednesday morning after being shot multiple times in the parking lot of a local business at the corner of Fiske Boulevard and Grove Avenue.

He had just dropped his son off at the school bus stop on Fern Street and was walking home when he got into an argument with an unidentified male suspect on a bicycle.

The incident was captured on the business’ surveillance camera and detectives are looking for the suspect.

“We are following some leads and are asking anyone with information to come forward,” said Sgt. Bill Mills of the Criminal Investigations Division.

“We are reviewing all the evidence in the case and will continue to be as thorough as possible in order to bring justice for the victim and the family.”

The reward is offered through the Central Florida Crimeline.  Anyone with information can call 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.  Callers can remain anonymous.

Deadly Shooting Claims Man’s Life After Walking His Son To School Bus Stop Wednesday Morning

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police are investigating a deadly shooting where a 31-year-old man was shot and killed early Wednesday after walking his son the the school bus stop near the southwest corner of Fiske Blvd. and Grove Street.

The victim was shot multiple times after a confrontation with an unidentified suspect.

The victim managed to get to his home on the 1000 block of Grove St.

Family members called 911 just after 7 a.m. but the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department.

According to witnesses, the victim had just walked his son to the bus stop on Fern St. As he walked back home north on Fiske an unknown suspect began arguing with him and subsequently fired several rounds at the victim.

The suspect was on a bicycle and fled the area.

The name of the victim is being held until next of kin are notified.
