Women’s basketball’s Julie McCarthy and football’s Antwuan Haynes have been named Mike Erdman Auto Group Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Nov. 7-13.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Women’s basketball’s Julie McCarthy and football’s Antwuan Haynes have been named Mike Erdman Auto Group Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Nov. 7-13.

McCarthy impressed to start the season with a strong all-around showing last weekend at the Rollins College Classic up in Winter Park, Florida.

In the second game of the classic, McCarthy recorded a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of action in the 66-59 victory over Saint Michael’s.

The Norwegian native finished the weekend averaging 10.5 points per game with a 56.3 field goal percentage. Adding to those numbers she also grabbed 9 boards per game, splitting those down the middle between offense and defense at 4.5 per game apiece, while also helping out on the defensive end with 3.5 blocked shots a game.

The women’s team finished the weekend 2-0 with wins over LeMoyne-Owen and Saint Michael’s.

Haynes put on quite the show on the offensive side of the ball over the weekend, racking up 212 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns to help propel the Panthers to a 42-16 rout of Delta State that insured the Panther’s first ever playoff appearance.

The sophomore running back’s 212 rushing yards is the most in a single game by any player in the Gulf South Conference this season.

The Plantation High School product looks to continue with his breakout season, leading the GSC with 98.3 rushing yards per game while averaging 162.8 all-purpose yards per game, ranking second in the conference.

Up next for the women’s basketball team is the opening of conference play with games against Sunshine State Conference foes Eckerd on the road, in St. Petersburg, Florida Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. E.T. and the team’s home opener against Barry on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The football team, ranked No. 3 in Super Region 2, will play host to the sixth seeded North Greenville Crusaders at Florida Tech Panthers Stadium this Saturday at 12 E.T.
