BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have arrested 34-year-old Daniel Ronald Cooper after the suspect threatened to use a hammer and a gun towards a family member Wednesday night at around 9 p.m., according to Lt. Shawn Eising of the Melbourne Police Department.

Officers responded to a residence in the City of Melbourne in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Investigation revealed Daniel Cooper engaged in contact with a family member who was deemed a protected party as the result of previous domestic violence incident, according to authorities.

While at the residence, Daniel threatened one family member with a hammer and a second with a handgun which he forcefully took away from that person, according to witnesses.

He was in the process of stealing cash from one of the family member’s safe when officers arrived on scene.

Daniel fled out a bathroom window and was apprehended by responding officers.

Cooper was charged with Aggravated Assault with a firearm, Aggravated Assault with a weapon, Armed Robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, violation of a domestic violence injunction.
