BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For three consecutive days in a row water samples taken upstream and downstream of the site of last week’s wastewater spill have had bacteriological counts at background levels.

Therefore, the City of Melbourne is lifting the advisory it issued after the spill. It is now safe to resume fishing, swimming and other recreational activities in the Eau Gallie River.

City staff will begin collecting the signs placed at residences and other sites along the river tomorrow morning.

Work to complete the repairs to the broken wastewater main will begin at midnight tonight.

Crews will cut out the damaged section of pipe and will replace it with a new section of pipe. This final repair is expected to be completed by sunrise tomorrow. Wastewater will continue to be diverted to the stormwater pond until the final repair is completed.
