BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Earlier this week, East Precinct Delta Squad Deputies responded to a citizen’s emergency 9-1-1 call regarding suspicious males entering unlocked vehicles in the Diana Shores area of Merritt Island.

When Deputies arrived, they were able to quickly establish a perimeter while gathering additional information from the concerned citizen.

Our Aviation Unit and a K-9 Deputy also responded and assisted in locating and arresting two suspects who were attempting to flee the area on foot.

Agents with the East Precinct General Crimes Unit also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. As a result, property located in the suspects’ possession was identified as being taken during the burglary spree and was subsequently returned to it’s rightful owners.

Agents also determined the suspects entered into the carport of a residence and took a bicycle belonging to the homeowner.

The investigation is still on-going and additional charges are pending.

The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Cardell Brown and 19-year-old Tequan Smith, both of Merritt Island.

Brown was charged with Burglary to an Occupied Dwelling, Possession of Burglary Tools, Burglary, and Grand Theft with a $31,000 bond.

Smith was charged with Burglary to an Occupied Dwelling, Burglary and Grand Theft with a $29,000 bond.

Both suspects were transported to the Brevard County Jail.

As Sheriff, I am extremely proud of everyone involved in this case from the citizen who called 911 to each member of our agency that played a vital part in getting two criminals off our streets and behind bars where they belong!!

This case is another great example of what happens when citizens and Law Enforcement work together to keep our community safe.

Please join me in thanking all of our team and the citizen for their commitment and dedication to protecting our community!! Without the help of our citizen there is no doubt there would have been many more burglaries that evening!!
