Eastern Florida State Titans’ Tennis Teams Ranked In Top 10 Heading Into Spring Season

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College tennis teams will head into the spring season ranked in the top 10 in the nation for the first time.

The Titan men’s tennis team makes their debut in the polls at No. 10 in the ITA Junior Community College men’s tennis rankings.

Samir Chikhaoui is a preseason All-American after winning the Division II Panther Invitational in September. Jesus Amezcua and Eduardo Garcia are also both ranked in the top 50 in the nation in singles.

“It’s really exciting to be building a program with the goal to be nationally competitive as quickly as possible. Being recognized as a top 10 program in our first semester of competition shows the strides we’ve made,” Eastern Florida State College tennis coach Jerry Thor said. “Our guys are continuing to train hard and improve as we look to move up this spring season.”

Luisa Varon and Lea Stormer are both preseason All-Americans with Varon ranked No. 2 in the nation in singles and Stormer is No. 6, the second highest ranked freshman in the country.

Giulianna Hull, Filda Badi and Josephine Karcher are all ranked in the top 50 in the nation in singles. The team of Varon and Karcher are No. 4 in the doubles rankings.

In all, five women’s players are ranked nationally which is the most in school history.
